How I Make Flocking Powder

image

I always remember seeing this at Micheal’s but never knowing what I would do with it if I bought it. It wasn’t until I saw a tutorial on YouTube where it was used to make a fuzzy animal charm, that I saw the use for it. While it isn’t expensive to buy especially if you have coupons, an idea came to me on making my own, since all the craft stores I go to are a far away. Okay, so lets start.

What you need:

  • Scissors

  • Container or zip lock bag

  • Chenille Stems (Craft Pipe Cleaners)
Step 1: Cut the the edges of the furry part of the pipe cleaner

Step 2: It can get messy so place it into your bag or container after your done cutting the first stem

Step 3: Repeat until you get the amount you want.

Step 4: Is to have fun with it, you can use it for your nails, special occasion cards and even polymer clay or anything you can think of.

Note: There are easier methods of doing this like using yarn, stain fabric or ribbon  but I had the pipe cleaners sitting in my room for a year and decided it was time to do something with it.

What Do You Do With Fabric Squares?

                 image

Coming Soon: click here

So recently my mother was picking out clothes around the house to give to my soon to be mother in law who’s planning to go back to Nigeria, while doing so she found a ton of African fabric samples (cloths) that I’ve long be asking for. Here and there she would occasionally had me some when the company who she orders from would come and visit her at the shop. We don’t get a lot of this anymore because the company has an online store where can order from.

The picture doesn’t do justice

Before this I had about 20-30 fabric squares now I have over 100, I haven’t counted but if you look at the basket you’ll see the that it’s pretty much obvious :) For now I plan on making bows and earrings, they’re also big enough to make wallets but right now my sewing machine skills is at level 0. I’ll try to learn how to use the machine before the end of the summer so I can work on more advance projects.

Please let me know what you think I should make by leaving a comment or sending a message through the ask box.

I Threw it Away

image

I made this chibi I would say about a year and a half ago and this is the only photo I have of it take on my phone before I I took it apart and throw it away. I don’t know why I did such a thing because when I look back on it’s one of the few chibi creations that I was very proud of. Even though it was simple it still had in way more work and detail for my first start, as you can see there is ears, a nose and she, yes she is not flat chested  Anyway I hope to start making my chibis this way again to not end up throwing them away.

What do you think?

5 Ways To Make Your Polymer Clay Scented

image

*This little article came from my old blog Nature’sMySweetTreat which before that came from my older blog SongInTheSnow ( know I switch a lot)

Have you ever bought a polymer clay charm over Esty or some other online shop, took a whiff of it and wondered to yourself “oh this smells so good, I most know how they did this”
Most people like to keep this as a big secret but in my opinion it’s not and I believe that it should be shared with everyone who’s willing to learn.

What you Need:Scented Oil(s) (Fragrance or Essential)
Polymer Clay
Fimo Liquid Clay/Translucent Liquid Sculpey (TLS)
Glaze/Varnish/Gloss
Chalk Pastels

So here is 5 different ways on how to make you clay scented

*Keep in mind that some oils are stronger than others for example the chocolate scented oil I had bought had a much stronger smell the the mint scented oil

  1. Get a bit of your scented oil by using a cotton swab or using your fingers and mixing it in your polymer clay. (Now I tend not to do this because most times the clay becomes very sticky and sometimes I use up more clay then I need.)

  2. You could mix the oil with your varnish/glaze then brush it over your baked polymer clay item. After that clean your brush then reapply the varnish/glaze over the baked polymer clay item, once the first coating is dry.

  3. Have your polymer clay charm sculpted and ready (make sure it’s not baked) , then get your brush and your oil. Next lightly dip your brush it in to your oil, tab of any excess liquids (oil), then coat your polymer clay item over it and bake it for how ever long the instruction on the clay brand says for.

  4. First make you your polymer clay frosting by mixing TLS and you polymer clay in a cup. After it’s well mixed then add about 1 to 2 drops of your oil depending on the amount of TLS. (If your mix becomes to watery then add some more clay to get a thicker mixture.)

  5. Another way to this while using TLS is by getting your TLS and mixing it with your chalk pastels for color the adding a little drop of your oil in to the mix.
